Service Never Sleeps' vision is to foster a community of concerned citizens for as long as social injustice exists.

 
 

Service Never Sleeps launched in 2015 as a program under the Aspen Institute's Center for Urban Innovation's Urban Innovation Lab, which aims to lift up transformative ideas emerging from the Washington region, in order to support change on the ground and create models that other urban areas can adapts. Through the Aspen Institute's year-long incubation, Service Never Sleeps has emerged as one of the most innovative nonprofits of its kind.


The Founding Team

Whitney Parnell - CEO

Whitney grew up between Latin America and West Africa as the daughter of a Foreign Service Officer. At Washington University in St. Louis, Whitney doubled majored in English and Spanish, and minored in Communications and Journalism, during which she also embraced her calling as a “professional humanitarian.” Whitney’s passion for service and social justice brought her to Washington, DC to serve with City Year, and then work in homeless services. Whitney is excited to create a movement of service and allies by igniting quick social change through mass civic engagement.

Shane Cooke

Growing up as the son of a Marine, Shane has always had a passion for issues facing the military community and foreign policy. He holds a B.A. in Political Science from University of Virginia, where he concentrated in Foreign Affairs and Comparative Policy. Currently, Shane works for the Code Of Support Foundation (COSF) as their Director of Communications and Advancement.

Jamie Stacy

Jamie believes in the importance of leveraging her skills for the benefit of others. Jamie holds an interdisciplinary degree with concentrations in business, communication and Spanish from Roberts Wesleyan College. After serving as an Americorps VISTA, Jamie worked at the Code of Support Foundation. Currently, Jamie works in the Performance Improvement, Government and Public Sector Advisory Practice at EY.

Samson Girma

An Arlington, Virginia native, Samson returned to the DC area, upon graduating Christopher Newport University, to serve two years of AmeriCorps national service; the first with education nonprofit City Year DC and the second with Public Allies. Samson has since developed experience managing federal grants, creating volunteer infrastructure, and evaluating program impact.
